Easy & nutritious soups for babies & toddlers

How many times have you asked yourself, ''What shall I cook for my baby today?''. I have been asking that question almost every day, since the moment we introduced solid foods to my little one. Many times we forget about the easy solutions and the ingredients we have in our fridge and we are breaking our head while thinking of new recipes etc.

Well, this is a post that I am sure it will help you on such moments and I bet that your little one will have new favorite foods!

The three soups below, are super easy to make, they are full of nutrients and are very tasty too! The best part is that you could actually make them as family meals too. Add some olive oil, some lime and some chilli in your plate and you have a proper adult meal!

Ready to make a soup today? Three options bellow and Bon appetit!

Vegetable soup (as of the 6th month of age)

Ingredients:

  • 1 potato (and/or sweet potato)

  • 1 carrot

  • Different types of veggies such as celery, spinach, zucchini etc.

  • salt & pepper (after the 1st year of age)

Instructions:

Peel and wash the vegetables, cut them into small cubes and add them in a small pot with two glasses of water. Boil over medium heat for 20 to 25 minutes. When your soup is done, you could add 1 tsp olive oil and 1 tsp of fresh lemon juice.

If you are following the Baby-Led Weaning method, lightly press the vegetables with a fork while making sure that there is still texture. If you give purees to your baby, you could use the food processor to have a velvet soup.

This is a two portions soup and you could store the extra portion in the fridge for the next day.

Chicken Soup (as of the 7th month of age)

Ingredients:

  • 2 chicken drum sticks

  • 1 potato (and/or sweet potato)

  • 1 carrot

  • Different types of veggies such as celery, spinach, zucchini etc.

  • salt & pepper (after the 1st year of age)

Instructions:

Boil the chicken without the skin, for 30 minutes.

Keep the water of the boiled chicken (it will add amazing flavor in the soup) and leave the chicken aside to cool down.

Peel off, clean and wash the vegetables, cut them into small cubes and add them in the pot with the water from the chicken. Add another glass of hot water and boil for 20 to 25 minutes. In the meantime, chop the chicken meat into very small pieces. Five minutes before removing the soup from the stove, add the chicken. Boil for five more minutes and serve. You can also add 1 tsp of olive oil and 1 tsp of fresh lemon juice.

If you are following the Baby-Led Weaning method, lightly press the vegetables with a fork, while making sure that there is still texture. If you give purees to your baby, you could use the food processor to have a velvet soup.

This is a two portions soup and you could store the extra portion in the fridge for the next day (only if the chicken is fresh, not frozen).

Fish soup

Ingredients:

  • 100 g fish (small fish i.e. sardines, cod etc)

  • 1 potato

  • 1 carrot

  • Different types of veggies such as celery, spinach, zucchini etc.

  • salt & pepper (after the 1st year of age)

Instructions:

Peel and wash the vegetables, cut them into small cubes and add them in a small pot with two glasses of water. Add also the fish without the bones. Boil over medium heat for 25 minutes. When your soup is done, you could add 1 tsp olive oil and 1 tsp of fresh lemon juice.

If you are following the Baby-Led Weaning method, lightly press the vegetables and the fish with a fork while making sure that there is still texture. If you give purees to your baby, you could use the food processor to have a velvet soup.

This is a two portions soup and you could store the extra portion in the fridge for the next day (only if the fish is fresh, not frozen).

Happy cooking!
